Dillard Wins $5000 Payday at Lake Sinclair
Van Dillard of Eatonton, GA won the Georgia Division Ram Truck Open Series event at Lake Sinclair on February 27, 2016. Dillard brought in a 17.88 pound bag of Lake Sinclair bass to win $5000. “The bite was better in the morning. I fished the mid-lake area all day and caught them on a jig and a Chatterbait. I was mostly targeting wood in the backs of pockets, very shallow,” said Dillard.
Carl Hayes of Sharpsburg, GA finished in second place with 17.47 pounds at the Sinclair event winning $1445. “I caught my fish today in staging areas. It has taken me a month to figure out just what these fish are doing, but today was a special day. I caught fish doing everything; flipping docks, throwing a spinnerbait in grass, and cranking rock. It just didn’t seem to make a difference what did. I probably caught four limits of fish today and had my first limit by nine o’clock or so,” said Hayes.
Third place at the Sinclair event went to Todd Lowe of Greensboro, GA with 16.64 pounds winning $963. “I fished the mid-lake area. I went cranking first thing, just to get a limit and let the sun get up on the grass beds. About 9:30, I picked up a Chatterbait and started hitting grass beds,” said Lowe.
Mike Blackshear of Macon, GA caught the 7.24 pound Boater Big Bass of the event to win $660 from the Big Bass Pot. Blackshear caught his lunker using a plastic lizard while fishing a seawall.
