Wooten Dominates on Kissimmee Chain

Bobby Wooten of Lithia, Florida won the American Bass Anglers Ram Truck Open Series Florida Central tournament, held June 18th on the Kissimmee Chain.

Running out of Camp Mack near Lake Wales, FL Bobby caught five bass weighing 27.05 pounds. “I started off throwing topwater this morning, but just couldn’t get the fish to eat the bait. Then, I changed up and started flipping, but couldn’t get them to stay on. Around 10:30am, we went off shore and we stayed there the rest of the day fishing brush piles,” Wooten said. For the Boater division victory, Wooten took home a check for $5,000.

In second place for the Boaters, Austin Schroeder of Zephyrhills, FL landed a five-bass tournament limit weighing 25.49 pounds with a 9.09-pound kicker. “I had seven bites and caught seven fish. I did have two 12 inchers that, if I could have culled out, I would have been close to Bobby. I fished clean, I brought it and just got beat,” Schroeder said. He collected $1,466 for the effort.

Micah Silverman of Belle Isle, FL took third for the Boaters with five bass weighing 25.10 pounds. He earned $977

Finishing fourth, Keith Albritton of Lake Wales, FL landed a five-bass limit weighing 24.88 pounds including a 7.55-pound kicker.

In the Co-Angler Division, David Lepsic of Haines City, FL won with three bass weighing 20.94 pounds.

“We ran around a good bit today. We started in Hatchineha in open water hydrilla and did okay there but then we ran down to Kissimmee and fished Kissimmee grass and shell beds. I caught a fish on a Rat-L-Trap, one on a shakeyhead, and one on a magnum speed worm in junebug,” Lepsic said. He sealed his victory with an 8.15-pound kicker to pocket a check for $2,000.

Taking second for the Co-Anglers, Danney Hulett of Kathleen, FL brought in a three-bass limit weighing 15.88 pounds with an 8.19-pound kicker. “Most of my bites came on a swim bait. I caught a few on a worm and flipping but the two bigger fish came on a swim bait. I lost one about 4 pounds but I wouldn’t have caught him (Lepsic),” Hulett said. He collected $688.50 for the effort.

Judith Foxx Johnson of Gainesville, FL placed third among the Co-Anglers with three bass weighing 13.85 pounds including a 7.36-pound kicker. She earned $459.
